Looking for a new job
“I started looking for a new job and ended up at JobXion through a vacancy. At the time I was still working as a white goods engineer. My employer back then had said they weren't giving out permanent contracts and that I could stay for a year at most. Besides, after two years as a white goods installer I felt it was time for a new challenge. The installation trade still appealed to me, but what I was doing wasn't enough for me. My experience was mainly in measuring up and installing built-in appliances, and I wanted to go deeper.
What appealed to me straight away was that Jobxion could get me working in the Utrecht region. That was exactly what I was looking for. They also offered a work-and-learn programme where in two days you get to know all the basic skills you need to get started in construction or engineering. That's what finally made me decide to apply.”
The training centre
“After responding to the vacancy, I was invited to spend two full days, from 08:00 to 16:00, at the training centre. I'd never seen a training centre like Jobxion's before. The training centre is in a large, modern warehouse. Inside there are various rooms set up to show the different real-life situations in the installation and plumbing trades. That way even people with no experience can get to know the trade in a hands-on, easy way. Under the guidance of instructors Jimmy and Henk, you learn the basic skills you need to get started through practical assignments. Jimmy and Henk know everything there is to know about installation, plumbing and electrics, and work out with you which area suits you best.
As well as instructors, there are also recruiters on site. They talk to you about your interests and experience to see which job and which terms of employment suit you best. With that information they look for a suitable company for you to work at. After I'd told them what I wanted, I quickly heard that they'd found a company. I was then invited there for an interview. During that interview we went through the whole process, from induction to start date.”
Don't hesitate, give it a go
“At first I had my doubts about working through Jobxion. That was because I didn't know what to expect. Seeing the training centre immediately took away all my doubts. I was enthusiastic straight after the first time. I'd advise everyone to always come and take a look at the training centre. Theory and actual practice can be so different, and at Jobxion you see what it's like in reality. It's only by making an appointment to come by that you really find out whether this is for you.”
